Email Backup for the Home Office

As technology continues to improve and the cost of essential office equipment has declined, more and more people are being granted the opportunity to work out of their homes. For some employees this situation will not provide them with the structure they need to maintain their productivity, but for others it is a godsend and working from home can actually improve their performance.

But before we discuss the advantages of working from home, let us briefly review the equipment that you will need. Though your company will often provide this equipment for you, occasionally a worker will be asked to procure the necessary technology on his own. The typical home office must be outfitted with all of the devices you rely on at work, such as a computer, printer, copier, fax, and scanner. It is also imperative that you get an email backup to protect your important messages from work.

So, what are the benefits? With the average worker spending nearly an hour on the roads each and every day, working from home saves valuable time that would have been otherwise wasted. Most workers also save time on grooming and dressing. After all, if you are working form home you don’t necessarily have to shave each and every day or wear a suit and a tie. Heck, you can work in your bathrobe if you’d like!

The home office also affords workers the ability to make their own schedules. If you want to get an early start, you can go to your home office before the sun comes up, or if you had a late night, you can sleep in a bit.

Another surprising benefit that most employees are not aware of is the fact that working out of the home transforms your house into a place of business. That means that you can deduct everyday household expenses when completing your taxes.

But probably the single most important advantage of working from home is that it gives employees the ability to make their own schedules and to spend more time with their families. Think about it. If you are spending an hour less on the road each day and maybe a half hour less getting ready in the morning... well, that’s an extra hour and a half that you can spend making dinner, playing with the kids, or talking with your spouse.
